Here is the deal, there is this new t-shirt company advertising all over Facebook, not going to say their name but it rhymes with mishmembassy, and there is this uncanny resemblance to our previous lines, and by resemblance I mean completely retread and redid our old designs. It wouldn't bother me so much except for the fact that they blathered on about how they want to bring freshness and creativity etc to the market and they are tired of the same ol' stuff from the same ol' gay t-shirt companies...(us) thank you very much.

In order to understand my point of veiw on this subject, I need to make it very clear we welcome competition and it makes the industry better as a whole. The result being : doing better work to stay ahead of your competition. In fact, 2 new gay t-shirt companies that are our competitors, I completely respect for their market positioning, their graphics and the guys who run the companies. They make the t-shirt market better for everyone, consumers and designers alike. It keeps everyone on their game. I love the work they both do and would buy it myself....check it out for yourself by visiting Killerbob graphics and Bearded Guy Designs. Both awesome, well thought out product lines.

I'm not posting this to be a douche bag but rather to bring attention to the fact that this isn't the way to compete against us. I want you guys to succeed on your own merit...and I saw some stuff that is really good....go in that direction, and stop retreading our old shit. This isn't moving the field of gay t-shirts forward, it just redoing our old shit....your customers deserve something better than this, and as artists you should demand more from yourselves.

Hottie Charlie David's movie "Mulligan's is out on DVD. I saw it here in seattle at the gay film fest and loved it. I highly recommend you rent it or order it online. The added bonus for us of course is the film features a number of ajaxx63 designs worn by various actors and in various scenes. Rediscovering Laibach-Naughty Subversive 80's Gaybar style.

I came across Laibach on Youtube the other day while hunting down old videos. I was flooded with memories of the late 1980's. I had just moved to chicago right from school at MSU. I had just turned 21 and my BF had found an apartment on Addison in Wrigleyville, an amazing neighborhood that like boystown was rapidly turning gay as the gay migration was heading north. My boyfriend had basically scoped out all the gaybars that guys like us would and could hang out at, slighty dingy dark, new wavey, hipster-y styled bars. His favorite was Berlin. We would hang out there smoking and drinking(no drugs), we discovered that later in NYC. Berlin was truly an amazing bar, hot guys, great music, cute bartenders and seriously hip. Videos were big at the time and as people drank and smoked, we would shout at each other over the loud music and sneak glimpses of the insanely well directed videos of Rita Mitsouko, New Order, Depeche Mode, and so on, the heavy hitters of the fusion of art, fashion and music. I was in heaven. Then there was Laibach, fusing together the imagery of nationalistic eastern european propganda films of the 30's and 40's with the pomp and circumstance of a Wagner Opera, in a word, incredible. At first, I was afraid of obvious Nazi look and feel of the video, then, and I have to admit it, became sexually excited by it. Take a look and tell me how you feel. Considering this is from 88-89 I think it has aged very well...and I still get turned on by the imagery. BTW, I have researched Laibach and the group hated Nazi and Nazi germany but liked the feel of their propoganda and classic art composition that they felt preceded the nazi's and felt the art of that era cant be dismissed as Nazi. Russians and Americans used such classic art and concepts in their work as well.

I love reading gay books before I fall asleep. I devour them. I have gone through about 8-10 books alone this year. Read 'em by the pool, read 'em in bed...just love em. I have this fascination with gay stories from the past, especially the gay scene in the 1970's in books like "Faggots" or "Dancer from the Dance". After the 70's gay books, I started reading books about the 80's then the 90's (when I came out), and now I have moved into present day. The latest book I was reading was "Every Frat Boy Wants It." I was worried it was going to be too trashy of a read, and not really all the fun, but I love it(I'm still reading it as of 11/24/08) and it's funny, sexy, and well written. I highly recommend it. However, I'm reading it and the lead character is checking out this guy and describes his outfit in vivid detail, " we was wearing a light blue tight shirt that had red graphics that said "Stiff Competition Wrestling" with two guys throwing down on a mat in the middle of it...I was so excited, and showed my boyfriend, "Look honey! We have been imortalized in print." It exciting to know, that we have made an impact on the gay world to the point of where we are being used as a literary foreshadowing device. The reader if in the know, we recognize the shirt and know the other character is gay! So cool. So now we have been in movies, TV shows, a comic book, have SIM characters, and now a book...Check the book out, I found it on overstock.com...and its also on Amazon.com as well. Look for "every frat boy want's it" by Todd Gregory.

Revisiting the 1980's w/Kim Wilde

I thought I have seen everything and heard everything from the 80's....I was wrong. I have never heard "the touch". It was as if Ken Russell made a fake music video. It is everything from the 80's rolled into one song and one video. Mind you this was the "other" 80's "the gay bar 80's". I was too wrapped up in English Music with its black and white video's of guys with short hair singing in front of old Scottish ruins in black trench coats and a crucifix flapping in the wind to have noticed the song "the touch". I would assume this video and song are part of the high energy pop 80's .I was too young to go out, so I would never have seen this. That being said, I love this too much and I got chills. Its beyond tacky, and by tacky I mean perfection.

Kim Wilde's look is pure 80's genius. I think it is time we brought this look back, the clothes are already in but the hair needs to make a comeback as well. I, for the most part, do not like 80's hairstyles, but I liked this devil may care-Euro disco look she has going on. I can imagine her smoking a cigarette in a cafe in Brussels, shielded from the rain by a big green awning, while thumbing through a copy of Face or Manipulator, (if the table was big enough) thinking about what shoulder to wear her shirt off of, or what shoe boot to buy next with all the money she is making on her hit songs.

This past week we were contacted by Randy Blue(via Gabriel Goldberg-our favorite and super talented fashion photographer "Rick Summer 2008 campaign") to work on a cross promotional campaign with our t-shirts and various products and Randy Blue models. At this point, its all just talk to see if we are interested. Interested? We LOVE randy blue.....the guys are too hot, and the site randyblue.com is the perfect match for our image, (Clean cut guys get dirty!). So I will keep you posted on any developments with this deal. As a side note: Its postings like this that made one of our web designers quit on us-he said and I quote "your content matter is inconsistent with my belief system-my wife took a look at your site and want's me to quit." Yeah buddy... I'll show you inconsistent with your belief system...Randy bring on the boys! This will get them all hot and bothered at church next week!

ajaxx63 Party-Stuttgart-Germany!

Our favorite guys, Carsten Hugin and Peter Breitling of Gay-industries.com in Stuttgart, Germany threw a huge party for ajaxx63.de. Of course, like everything these two do, it was a huge success! Over 3000 people packed the club. Large screens displayed pictures of various ad campaigns we have run over the years. I can't wait to tell my buddy Frank, one of our ajaxx63 models- and a good friend of mine, (We usually use our friends as models, we run a tight ship around here, and our friends are good looking and fairly vain!) that his picture was towering over the dance floor as thousands of hot gay Germans partied. We seriously need to get bars here in the US to do nites like this...we do have a party at R-place in Seattle, which is a big hit, but I want to package a party nite concept and sell it to clubs across the US as a way to cross promote our brand and partake in a little gorilla style anti marketing campaign. With the economy being what it is these days, creative solutions and out of the box thinking is going to have to be the way to survive and thrive during all this economic hub bub.

Quitting Smoking at ajaxx63! Beware!

We are all about good health at ajaxx63...okay well maybe we are all about looking like we are healthy. And right now, all of us smoke and we are all going to quit 9/11/08. I know dramatic, but that is what we all all into right now, being dramatic and reclaiming our good looks...and our lungs good lucks. Sure we have all had a good run with smoking, hanging out in front of the Cuff, sitting in cafes pretending to read books,(Dez!) chilling by the company pool and so on. But no we are all hagged out wheezy booze bags and need to reel in the smoking and find another thing to occupy our time. The only thing I'w concerned about is my BF who last time he quit smoking he kicked a hole in the door to the bathroom at work. This time I hope he can do some on the fly anger management and chill before he destroys our ware house.

My other favorite Seattle band is Natalie Portman's Shaved Head or NPSH. These kids are hip, plugged in and very talented. Love their simple retro electronic style, their lyrics are pure hipster Seattle smarty pants. This might be the next logical step in the handing over of the old school B-52's crown to the next generation. We love them if only because these songs are fast and furious, like old school punk, but full of not ready for mainstream lyrics about guns, killing JT and loves of whales and beating kids up. I just found out two weeks ago that NPSH use to practice in my buddy Jim's garage. How cool would that be to have these damn kids banging away in your garage. I wonder if he put on an apron and walked out there with a pitcher of Kool-Aid....and said"Hey you damn kids, take a break from all your music...I made you some refreshments!" Of course, I'm jealous of Jim for a number of reasons, #1.) I love NPSH. #2.) I wish sometimes my husband and I had kool kids of our own that would have musicians as friends that would need a place to play. and lastly, #3.) I wish I had a garage big enough for kids to be able to practice in....we can barely fit our lawn mower and one little tiny car in our miniscule Seattle garage!

Due to numerous requests, I am reposting this photo shoot for friends and family to be able to access and copy over some of the favorite pics from this awesome shoot. KC (dressed as Isis) Mendez was one of my best friends and favorite people. We spent the summer, with all our friends, running around, doing crazy gay stuff, for no other reason, than to enjoy life and have fun. A few days after the shoot around the pool, which KC spent hours at just laying out and telling us funny stories of his childhood in Hawaii, we went to KC's going away party in Capitol Hill. I had no idea that would be the last time I would see KC. He moved to SF to fall in love and to enjoy a different scene. I totally expected for him to move back to Seattle at any time. Late one night, after leaving the city with his friends, he was in a car accident that took his life. He is missed so terribly much.

Seattle Pride-2008!

What a great Pride this was in Seattle. Crowd estimates aren't official, but the number on the street seems to be ranging from 250,000 all the way to 400,000 folks. A number may not be possible since all media here has basically elected to ignore the fact that Pride even took place. As Sunday drew near, the weather kept getting hotter and hotter, and the news would mention events like "It's going to be a hot one for the taste of Tacoma" or I hope the Fremont Dirt Shrew run isn't cancelled due to the heat" (Yeah for all 200 fucking people involved in it." Yeah don't bother to mention that the biggest event in the city is going on or the fact that it is the second largest event of the year, next to sea fair." Yeah go fuck yourselves....I never really ever felt like I was discriminated against before, especially in liberal Seattle...until this year with this basically Pride news blackout. It was as if Karl Rove himself had threaten all the news stations. Anyway....pride was fucking awesome and the boys hot, the girls out of control...the drag queens partied and added that extra special color that truly defines a good party. Ajaxx63 had a booth and we sold the shit out of our stuff, we debuted the new summer ad campaign, which everyone loved...tourists were taking pictures of themselves with our banners and posters. So it was a great and meaningful event. At nite the bars were crowded beyond capacity and even though we started out early, we couldn't brave the 2 hour plus line to the Cuff and opted instead to go to Purr and even to the Wild Rose (lesbian bar) block party(we were showing support to our lesbian co-workers and getting to see a different side of Seattle.) We had to avoid all the other nite clubs in Seattle (again too crowded) and eventually poured ourselves into a cab and headed home!

Due to overwhelming demand and interest, I am putting up more of the pics from our summer 2008 ad campaign photo shoot by Gabriel Goldberg. Let me start by saying, I love this campaign! Gabriel captured exactly what was going on inside my head to create a splash for summer 2008. What I didn't expect was just how much guys would react to the images. Most guys love it, love the model and love the way we choose to represent our company in a fashion ad campaign. (About 95% love it) Well, then there is the other 5% that are confused by it or think it is a bad way to sell t-shirts, " they are all ripped up....who would want ripped up t-shirts like that?" "is this fashion or 80's porn?" "You are blatently using sex to sell clothes" etc. My goal was to generate interest in the ajaxx63 fashion image not on a particular shirt per say so this has gone far beyond my goal. We do get asked about 2 times a day for the ripped up shirts though, and I have to admit, its not a bad idea.

We are doing posters, postcards etc. for our stores and to be used as imagery online. The point of this campaign was to focus on our sexy image not so much on our shirts persee. As a kid, at Easter, Peep's were a very big deal. My mom, while pulling together all the stuff she would put in our Easter baskets, made sure properly "seasoned" Peep's were included. This is the only time we have released images of our new line before it has gone on sale. Great new designs for Spring 2008. We had the photo shoot today for our line sheets that go to stores and wholesale distributors in Asia, Europe and Australia. Line sheets are the first marketing step ajaxx63 takes after the line is designed and produced. I thought, why share it so you guys can see what's in store for the next 2 months. Summer is on the heels of this and we are busy cooking it in our own little Ajaxx63 ovens. We do what we love, we love making music for the people.

Our customers are the best. We had a sizing issue with our contrast banded athletic fit tees. For some reason, and only our factory knows for sure, we got sent an order of xtra-small shirts. Accidentally, the damn shirts made it into our inventory. One of our customers received the shirt and contacted Ajaxx63's returns to inform us of the mishap. Of course, we replaced it immediately. We told him don't bother returning the bad shirt, give it away or toss it. He opted for a different solution. This is his dog wearing the shirt, which I must admit, fits him like a glove. I love stuff like this and appreciate our customers sense of humor and his ability to, well, make lemonade out of a potentially lousy situation. Ladies and gentlemen, may I present Edwin, the fashion bee- otch! (How cute is this dog?!!)

Class Comics Advertising Campaign with Ajaxx63

A while back,Ajaxx63 had the opportunity to work with the boys over at Class Comics, a BC based gay comic book company, or rather illustrated novel producer, to create an ad campaign that would run in the backs of there fall line up of comics. My goal, in advertising, with Class was to make sure the reader wasn't jarred out of the beautifully illustrated world the artists had crafted. I wanted to advertise in order to help offset Class's printing costs and also to reach a different audience that Ajaxx63 may have not reached before. In addition, I wanted an ad that included, if possible, characters from one of the story lines, to achieve this seamless transition. I love gay comics and Class's story lines, characters and artwork are unparalleled in this genre.
I am still gathering up info, links and art for this blog entry.

Seeing this character in our gear was truly a great moment for us at ajaxx63. When you are in a video game, life is good. Blast from the past. Ajaxx63 nite out!

I was going to stay in this past Sunday but Dez kept texting me to go out to the Cuff in Seattle. Sunday nite is now a big nite at the cuff since the closing of the Timberline,(a huge dance club that mysteriously closed down just a year or so after its big re-opening). I pulled it together and ran over to the Cuff to dance a little and grab a red bull vodka, (a lindsay Lohan), and mix it up with the damn kids. While, shaking it, I saw this huge hottie with his girl hanging out just to the side of the dance floor, as I got closer to him, I realized it was a buddy of mine from 10 years ago, who I have not seen since. We had a great time re-uniting, our mutual friends all hit it off, so what was suppose to be a short nite out turned into a trashy marathon. ie (Noche Latino @Neighbors, and hot dogs with the works from street vendors at 4 am. It was worth it. Rick, my blast from the past, is now this fine strapping muscle man. Drag queens would come up to him giggling and ask to touch his arms. Very funny. But underneath all that muscle, is the nicest Texan boy you could ever hope to meet. We had a great time reconnecting. Hopefully, we didn't harm the corporate image of ajaxx63 too much that nite!

After we started the poll on RJ, one of RJ's buddies saw it online and contacted RJ to check it out. RJ contacted me at ajaxx63 to say how cool he thought it was that we would have a poll about his future modeling with ajaxx63. (and that he owned both the catcher AND the pitcher tank...lol). We started emailing back and forth, and I have to say, RJ is the nicest guy. Totally cool and laid back and better yet, we have this total Michigan connection going on. We both grew up in the lovely Detroit area, me on the east side, he on the west. Ajaxx63 on Dante's Cove 3-My Seriously Fav Show!

Like I said previously, I love supplying clothes for shoots in movies or shows. Dante's Cove being no exception. However, the bonus was getting to work with Charlie David, Dante's Cove lead male hunk. The whole clothing deal with Dante's Cove came about so casually. Not the traditional course you would think something this high profile would go. I imagined this high faluten hubbub complete with TV execs bent over a stunning modern conference table in some fancy pants L.A. high rise office tower. Rather ajaxx63 is contacted out of the blue by wardrobe to supply clothing for the show. Ironically, we had just rented seasons 1 and 2 of Dante's Cove from Blockbuster.com earlier that week. (Because our lame ass cable doesn't carry HereTV in Seattle, only logo which inexplicably doesn't have Dante's Cove and bleeps out every swear word, as if little children are sitting there watching it, but it does have Rick and Steve, which I love!) We fell in love with Dante's Cove, it truly is a guilty pleasure extraordinaire, like a modern day Dynasty. All I keep thinking of for the next few days was how to, somehow, contact the wardrobe. Lo and behold, they contacted me. Now,was this Karma? or good chi energy? or ying and yang? or whatever, I was stunned. After all the legal mumbo jumbo legal clearances, release forms etc. It was a done deal. Charlie David enters at this point. He contacted me for Mulligans an awesome film he was working on after Dantes's Cove and for "Bump" HereTV's gay travel series. All the while, I had no idea, I'm dealing with THE Charlie David, just some really nice Canadian dude in wardrobe handling various projects. When I re-read an old email, I'm like, "wait is this the same guy starring in Dante's Cove",(possibly, one I may or may not have fantasized over, one I was willing to break-up my happy marriage with my loving husband over, that Charlie David?) Well it was! He is the nicest guy in the world, and very instrumental in helping ajaxx63 jump the hurdles of something as potentially difficult as product placement. I love Charlie David and owe him so much. So by all means, check out the latest season of Dante's Cove Season 3. Bonus: a stable of hot men to rival Falcon studios and ajaxx63 clothing.

Model Spotlight: Erin McDarby

Erin is a mid-western transplant to Seattle. Currently, he is working as a bartender at the Cuff. A hugely popular bar in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. Our wildly attractive art director, Bill Sherman, took notice of Erin as he mixed up his Red Bull Vodka splash of cran (as he is known to drink). It occurred to Bill that Erin had to do the fall collection for ajaxx63. Erin has the look and style that perfectly reflects what the ajaxx63 man is all about. Casual and comfortable with his look, which with Erin, runs the gamut of styles encompassing,a 1970's porno sea captain to a british jogger on a foggy sunday morning. He loves fashion but in an understated way that is seamless, never pretentious, and usually a bit provacative. Working with Erin was a breeze. Fun, talkative, and easygoing, the shoot went off without a hitch. (Check out Erin's pics on our site).

Our jewelry line for spring/summer 2008 is hella sick. We have added a complete line of leather,stainless steel, carbon fiber, hemp, damn you name it and I think we have it. Our goal is to have a look that truly enhances our current offerings in t-shirts. The hard part of doing jewelry(aside from the design) is to get it to fall into a price range that is attractive(cheap) for our customers. That challenge eliminates most high end product options. In addition, a reliable manufacturer that doesn't crack out on us(our previous jewelry encounter) is of paramount importance. So this time around, we know exactly what to look for, cost, style and our customers tastes were all taken into account even before entering negotiations with any manufacterers. Ajaxx63 was contacted a few months back by the wardrobe director for Another Gay Movie to work on their upcoming new film "Another Gay Movie: Guys Gone Wild/Spring Break" the sequel to their 2006 smash hit indi film release from TLA. I love working with creative departments on films, maybe the most rewarding aspect of working in fashion that deals with the gay market. Their latest film, like their previous,is a list of who's who in the hipster gay community. RuPaul, Lady Bunny, Perez Hilton, to name a few. Hot guys, super sexually charged situations, yet somehow, a charming and innocent potrait of gay sex emerges. If you have not seen the first film, rent it now! It is so fucking funny and really does address sexual and coming out issues of young guy guys. I, of course, watched it with my sister, which re-awakened that awkwardness I had felt as a young gay guy. Having to explain butt plugs and penis pumps to your sister is always one of those precious moments that only gays can identify with. But through the giggles and uncomfortable moments, an actual realistic gay experience is depicted and when the movie ended she was telling me how sweet she thought it was and how she wished she were a gay guy so she could have so much fun.

The new line-Fall 2007

With all the problems that happen, every single time, we finally got the fall line out. The influence was loosely based on what you would want to steal from your tricks house. Does that sound too crass? Well I think it is suppose to, I mean seriously we are one of the only industries, where you can say whatever you want and not have to defend yourself. Gay guys are so cool about fashion, and understand that sometimes you have to take a risk and make mistakes to get a huge hit. Our models this time were awesome, Jarrod is a total cutie and super fun to work with. He had this vintage jaguar that he took me outside to show off. Im secretely in love with Jarrod, though I have a BF and he is a good 10 years younger than me. The other model is Erin who is a bartender at the Cuff in seattle. (Awesome Bar BTW, they even carry our line in their store which is located on the bar level near the back bar on the firsts floor). Erin, is super good looking and has a great sense of style. After the shoot was over we all went swimming, it was very hot and sunny that day. Great for a photo shoot. As we floated around on rafts smoking cigarettes and talking, I realized I didnt really know Erin at all until that day. I had had the bartender/customer relationship with him.
